La Petite Reine du Rwanda : Racing in the Thousand Hills Country
(Avec le soutien du Fonds pour le journalisme en Fédération Wallonie-Bruxelles"
With the twenty years commemoration of the genocide soon to come, Rwanda is still synonymous of inter-ethnic conflict. In this small country of Central Africa, bicycling has become a reconciliation tool and the national team a symbol of unity. The first Tour of Rwanda was held in 1989, covering more than 1200km through the country. Since then, racing cyclists from the whole continent and also Europe and the United States, gather for the race and climb the countless hills of Rwanda. Overcoming a too heavy past, the Rwandan citizens follow their national team with the pride of a nation ready to make a fresh start.
